We co-chaired the MWM symposium in 2021, which was designed as a virtual experience in the light of Covid. The ISOQOL staff assisted with all the logistical preparations, including scheduling planning and rehearsal meetings, identifying the technology platform to use, and of course, taking care of promotion and registration. They really made it pain free for the co-chairs, who could then focus on planning the scientific content and recruiting speakers. It was overall a great experience and we had a lot of fun along the way with the team! I would urge all with a great topic to share with the measurement world and beyond to propose a topic and host [a virtual symposium]!

In 2023, I had the pleasure of working with Professor Rick Sawatzky and Professor Kevin Weinfurt to present “Arguing for validity: Structured evidence-based validation practice to improve PRO measurement” as an ISOQOL webinar. Aside from the work of putting the webinar content together, the ISOQOL process to prepare for and present the webinar was structured and smooth, with useful reminders and communications to support preparation, the timeline, and the smooth operation of the live webinar. We appreciated that ISOQOL has a payment structure to facilitate open access to the webinar after the live presentation.

It was an honor to co-chair ISOQOL’s 2024 virtual meeting “Matters in Social Determinants of Health: The Impact of Social Determinants of Health on HRQL for Persons with Chronic Illness.”

Beginning in April 2023 when ISOQOL informed us that this topic was selected for virtual presentation through July of 2024, my co-chair, Brittany Lapin, and I were thrilled to have the guidance and support we received from Charise Milan and the rest of the ISOQOL team. It was obvious from our first organizational meeting that the ISOQOL staff had built and refined the administrative structure that assured a successful planning process and meeting presentation. Knowing in Spring 2024 our planning milestones and timelines was reassuring and always on target. Brittany and I are certain that the success we had in gathering the remarkable faculty for the  symposium was due largely to the well-paced planning meetings we had with those presenters. Charise’s experience and reassurance in guiding us through the inevitable hiccups we encountered throughout the process and presentation was both professional and empathetic. Co-chairing this virtual symposium was an honor. I encourage our members to consider submitting proposals for future symposium with full confidence that the ISOQOL staff are amazingly prepared to make it happen.

I had the pleasure of moderating the ISOQOL webinar titled “Revealing hidden change through a response shift lens: The role of latent variable models,” and I couldn’t be more pleased with the entire experience. From the initial submission process to the final wrap-up after the webinar, working with the ISOQOL team has been a seamless and rewarding experience.

The submission process was straightforward, and the ISOQOL staff were incredibly supportive from the start. They made sure that our team was well-guided in every step, from refining the webinar’s concept to structuring the content. We had regular meetings to ensure that all aspects of the webinar were on track, and the ISOQOL team was consistently helpful in reviewing materials, providing feedback, and making sure everything was aligned with their high standards.

The promotional efforts were outstanding. ISOQOL did an excellent job of reaching out to members, making the event widely known, and ensuring we had an engaged audience. The level of interest from the Response Shift SIG members and new investigators was exactly what we hoped for, and it was clear that ISOQOL’s communication efforts contributed significantly to that success.

During the webinar itself, the ISOQOL staff provided outstanding support. The technical setup was flawless, and the team was ready to assist with anything that came up. Their guidance helped keep everything running smoothly, which allowed me to focus on moderating and engaging with the speakers and participants.

Following the webinar, the ISOQOL team continued to be helpful, offering post-webinar support and feedback. It’s clear to me that ISOQOL is committed to the success of their webinars and to providing valuable resources to our community. I highly recommend participating in or hosting an ISOQOL webinar. The professionalism, attention to detail, and support from the ISOQOL team make the entire process a great experience for all involved.

Participating in an ISOQOL webinar provides a great opportunity to connect with a broad audience. During the live webinar, presenters can interact with attendees from around the world. The recordings on the ISOQOL website serve as an ongoing resource for future viewing. As such, webinars enable presenters to reach attendees across space and time.

Organizing an ISOQOL webinar was a fantastic way to reach members who may not have the opportunity to join for the annual conference. The process of developing the webinar was also helpful for building and maintaining connections with the speakers in a meaningful way.

In 2023, myself and Dr Liane Ioannou co-chaired the MWM virtual symposium on the role of patient-reported outcomes measures (PROMs) as part of oncology clinical quality registries. It was a wonderful experience and working with staff from ISOQOL made the journey to developing this symposium highly rewarding and stress free. Charise, Julia and Joshua (ISOQOL) took charge of planning the event, scheduling, communication, videoing and keeping us on track! This allowed us, as the chairs, to concentrate on the development of the content for the program, identifying and communicating with the key speakers. Meetings were scheduled in advance, and we were clear on our goals for each upcoming meeting. The symposium was a success, that could only be achieved in collaboration with highly capable ISOQOL staff members who guided the process from the start.

I had the pleasure of participating in the ISOQOL webinar in June 2024, and it was an experience which I found very supporting and engaging. As a patient representative it was a supportive environment which although led by statisticians and Endpoints experts ensured that the views and perspectives of the patients were not lost. The key speakers were open to answering questions which potential patients like myself had in relation to estimands and the importance and benefits of patient involvement.

This webinar provided an excellent springboard and should be used as a framework for patient involvement moving forward because as patients we are the best where our conditions are concerned and as such clinical trials must be a reflection of the our population. Thus such a framework will ensure that patients are engaged in the decision-making process, thus allowing us to develop a stronger sense of ownership and responsibility towards our own health. And the webinar achieved this.

I would like to congratulate the team in meeting the objectives of the webinar.

Webinar Speaker

It was a distinct honor to collaborate with Calvin Ho from the Industry SIG in preparing and conducting the webinar “Transitioning Between Academia and Industry: A Career Panel,” during my tenure as the NI-SIG Co-Chair. This initiative was an exceptional opportunity to engage with ISOQOL’s mission of supporting professional growth and fostering meaningful dialogue among its members.

The value of the webinar lay in its timely and relevant focus on career transitions, a topic resonating deeply with many in the ISOQOL community, particularly those considering a shift between academia and industry. Featuring diverse perspectives and practical insights from accomplished speakers, the event offered attendees actionable advice and strategies to navigate their professional journeys. This rich content addressed the spectrum of ISOQOL members—those seeking new career paths and those revisiting former ones—ensuring its broad applicability and impact.

The preparation process, which spanned 4-5 months, was meticulously handled by the ISOQOL staff with remarkable professionalism and precision. Every aspect—from speaker outreach and communication to logistical arrangements—was supported by clear guidance and foresight. The team’s proactive approach to addressing potential challenges, such as pre-recorded sessions for speakers with scheduling conflicts, ensured a seamless experience for both organizers and attendees.

For me personally, this webinar was a transformative experience. It marked my first opportunity to manage an international online event, and I gained invaluable skills in coordinating a large-scale, virtual initiative. Witnessing the positive feedback from attendees reaffirmed the significance of this effort in supporting ISOQOL’s members during pivotal career transitions.

It was truly a privilege to contribute to such a meaningful and well-received initiative. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to learn, grow, and connect with the ISOQOL community through this endeavor.
