Conference Dinner

At the Vancouver Art Gallery

Monday, October 30th

Attendance at the conference dinner provides the opportunity to view several exhibits on display at the Gallery. Mingle among the modern masters of Canadian Art - Robert Davidson, Bill Reid, Jack Shadbolt, Gordon Smith - and the greatest collection of works by British Columbia's most influential artist, Emily Carr. "Colouring the West: A Century of B.C. Painting" traces the development of painting in British Columbia throughout the 20th century, from the realism of the 1930s and 40s, the advent of modern abstraction through the 1950s and 60s, and the variety of sources for contemporary painters.

In addition to this major, year-long exhibition from the permanent collection, The Vancouver Gallery will be hosting two exhibits at the time of the ISOQOL conference: "Between Two Worlds: The Art of Poland 1890-1914" and "Impressionist Master Work from the National Gallery of Canada."

"Between Two Worlds: The Art of Poland 1890-1914" offers visitors from the western world a rare chance to see the eastern European counterpart to early modernism that produced the basis for contemporary art. Approximately 85 paintings, graphic works, posters, sculpture, textile and applied art objects from the collection of the Polish National Museum in Cracow that were produced between 1890 and 1914 will be on display.

"Impressionist Master Work from the National Gallery of Canada" consists of thirteen of the most significant Impressionist paintings from the National Gallery of Canada's collection. Important works by leading figures in this 19th century movement are featured including acclaimed paintings by Paul Cézanne, Edgar Degas, Claude Monet and Vincent Van Gogh.
