Ambassador Program

To foster the international network of QOL researchers, we will offer an innovative ambassador program. Local participants will be invited to be conference ambassadors. If you wish, an ambassador will be assigned to you according to your research interests and specialty, well before you arrive Hong Kong. Your ambassador will be able to link you to local QOL researchers and health organizations, and provide practical tourist tips on what to see and where to dine and shop in Hong Kong, as well as tourist options in Mainland China that may interest you.

Please indicate on your registration form if you are interested in this exciting new program!

Mentor/Mentee Program

ISOQOL is pleased to announce the return of the Mentor/Mentee program, matching Early New Investigators with Mentors in the QOL field. A Mentor/Mentee reception will be held on Sunday, October 17, 5:30 - 6:30. If you are an New Investigator and are interested in meeting with a Mentor from ISOQOL, or if you are interested in being a Mentor, please indicate your primary clinical/research interest area on your registration form. Also, please email your biosketch or CV to info@isoqol.org and type "mentoring program" in the subject line.

You will receive more information regarding the assignments closer to the meeting. In order for the committee to make appropriate matches for this program, please register and submit your biosketch or CV by August 30, 2004.

Employment Exchange Program

Again this year, ISOQOL is proud to announce the Employment Exchange Program, taking place at the 2004 ISOQOL Annual Conference. This program will allow institutions to post job opportunities at the meeting as well as allow qualified applicants looking for employment to post their resume at the meeting.

We will maintain notebooks for job seekers and employers near the registration area during the meeting, where you can look through all available positions and candidates. The notebooks will be stationed near the ISOQOL Membership Table.

Please consider placing your job description or resume on file for attendees at the ISOQOL meeting to review. Click here to download the forms. You can bring a hard copy (please bring 2 copies) with you to the meeting and drop it off at the registration desk or once they are complete, you can email them by October 1st to the ISOQOL Executive Office at info@isoqol.org or fax them to 703-556-8729.

If you know of a colleague who might have job openings for individuals interested in the quality of life area, they too can submit, as long as they designate you as the contact during the meeting so that candidates can get more information if needed.

Once in Hong Kong
A variety of transportation options are available for people travelling between Hong Kong International Airport and Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, New Territories and Lantau Island: rail, bus, ferry and taxi services. Operated by the MTR Corporation, the high-speed Airport Express rail service takes passengers to Hong Kong Station in Central, via Tsing Yi and Kowloon, about 23 minutes. The one-way adult fare from the airport to Hong Kong Island is HK$100. Trains run every 15 minutes from 5:50am-1:15am daily and free shuttle-bus services to major hotels are available for Airport Express users.

There are more than 30 franchised bus routes from the airport, including nine Airbus services that have fewer stops than conventional buses. Airbus fares range between HK$14 and HK$45. Ferry links between Chek Lap Kok Pier and Tuen Mun Pier in the New Territories run from 6am-11pm daily. Taxis to almost anywhere in Hong Kong are readily available from the taxi pick-up area. A typical journey between the airport and Central costs about HK$340; and Tsim Sha Tsui the fare is HK$270.
